The Flight Review
§ 61.56 Flight review Says a flight review must consist of a minimum of 1 hour of flight training and one hour of ground training, review of general operating and flight rules of part 91, and A review of those maneuvers and procedures that, at the discretion of the person giving the review, are necessary for the pilot to demonstrate the safe exercise of the privileges of the pilot certificate.
In some cases the flight portion and/or the ground portion of the Flight Review may last longer than 1 hour at the discretion of the flight instructor. On the other hand active pilots usually have no problem completing the flight portion in one hour and a good review of part 91 can help with the ground portion.
A great way to prepare for the flight review is to take the online course titled Flight Review Prep guide available on the FAA SAFETY.GOV web site. If you have not already done so you must register to use and then you will be able to access the online catalog of training courses.
This course takes about one hour, is very concise, and covers all pertinent information. There are links through out the course to relevant pages in the Airman's Information Manual for further study. The format allows you to review in detail what you don't know and speed through what you already know.
